Who is this Victorian couple? If you look back at your own family photographs, do these two people look familiar?

Many years ago, these two portraits were found upstairs in the alcove of the Hills Memorial Library. They each have oval borders and gilt frames. One is a middle aged, almost smiling lady; on her dress she is wearing a white lace collar with a brooch. Her hair is a shade of chestnut. The other portrait is of a middle aged or older gentleman with light brown hair who has a rather stern demeanor. He is wearing a white shirt, black jacket, and black necktie.

Unfortunately, these "mystery" oil paintings show no information-not even the artist's name. An appraiser who cleaned these portraits believes they were from the turn of the 20th century. A staff member has seen portraits of another couple dressed similarly in another New Hampshire library.

If anyone knows anything about these paintings or the couple, or can check with family and friends about them, please let us know if you have any information to help solve this mystery.

We look forward to hearing from you.
